Somaliland (Somalia)

Somaliland is an self-proclaimed state of northern Somalia. It is a semi-autonomous republic led by Muse Bihi Abdi (president since 2018).

This state was founded in 1991 by the SNM, a rebel group opposed to the authoritarian regime of Mohamed Siad Barre (1969-1991).

Other than a border dispute with the federal republic of Puntland, Somaliland is the region least scarred by the 'Somalian civil war' that rages on. An ineresting fact is that Taiwan is the only 'state' to recognize Somaliland's independence.
