Tigray is an Ethiopian region spanning an area of about 30000 square miles. There is a conflict in this zone between national Ethiopian forces and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF).
The TPLF is a group that wants Tigray to become independent. It is led by Debrestion Geberemichael.
This group has recently (in November 2020) rebelled against Abiy Ahmed Ali's government that had postponed regional elections to 2021 because of coronavirus.
