Balochistan is one of the poorest regions of Pakistan. The main linguistic group is that of the Balochs.
They have already rebelled against the central government and created the Balochistan Liberation Front (BPLF). This is considered a terrorist group by Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.
This group claims the independence of 'Greater Baluchistan', an area stretching from southeast Iran to southwest Pakistan. They already tried to kill President Pervez Musharraf (2001-2008), and have been responsible for several hostage takings.
